Atooma, the best app in the world

febbraio 28, 2013 Technology No Commenti

Atooma is the “best application in the world”. They decided at Barcelona World Congress after a selection made from over 1400 competitors. Atooma is an Android application developed by four Italian guys of 27 years and allows you to customize functions on your phone.

In short, the program gives you the ability to create several mini-apps without having to know the intricate programming codes. To date Atooma is used by over 70 thousand people, thanks to its versatility: it can for example lower the ringtone when you are in the office, send a text message as soon as you return at home, turn on the speakerphone in the car, and also connect you to social networks or to your surveillance systems. In this regard, it should be noted that the app made in Italy can be used to customize even more the connection services between your smartphone and powerful instruments of control and monitoring of their environments allowing you to raise your security level.

Atooma is started as an experiment to revolutionize the mobile phone operating systems, idea on the basis of the thesis of one of the components. The work has been noticed and awarded in various contests.
At the time the application is only available for smartphones with the Android operating system, it’s under experimentation a version for iOS that appears more tricky.
Although the project of the young italians is going very well, weren’t collected enough money to further grow the business.

The smart TV in a USB key

febbraio 25, 2013 Technology No Commenti

New devices that make “smart” any TV. These systems, mostly based on Android, transform any home screen in a tablet. Apparently they look like bigger usb key, but instead of the connector to the computer there is a HDMI video port that allows us to connect directly to the TV. There are of all types: unbranded and cheaply or branded and with a range of accessories supplied for an easier use.

Among the most simple we find the key Smartkey TV – Movie Pack Asystel (sold to about 99 euro). Essential aesthetically, supports Android 4.4 and the initial configuration is done through wizards. The interface is available in several languages and there are already many applications installed including the online movie rental service. Clearly for this type of apps is important that the Wi-Fi coverage is very good, so as to allow a high speed data transmission. In the package of Smartkey TV there are a HDMI cable and a dedicated controller. Have been found some gaps; seems that the system refers to the key as if it was a telephone and there are a series of applications that don’t have a real use, like the one for the integrated camera which, obviously, doesn’t exist.

Another good example is the Manhattanshop Android TV Dongle U1A (costs 79.80 euro). Aesthetically it is very refined, supports Android 4.4 and behaves exactly like a tablet. The initial interface is empty and in English, with nothing installed, but it gives direct access to Google Play, the market for app of Google, that enables customization at 360°. Even in this case not all the apps work properly. To control the “tablet”, since the TV isn’t touch, we can use any wireless keyboard and mouse, or purchase a separate dedicated controller. Surfing the web is slower than that obtained with the tablet.

Clearly don’t lack the Apple‘s alternative to approach to Smart TV. The Apple TV allows you to rent and watch it on TV all the movies available on iTunes. Although the catalog is very large, it happens very often to don’t find what you are looking for. You can’t install and use app directly on the Apple TV, but we can use it to view the screen of our iPhone or iPad on your TV.

Through the new smart devices, you can also check the surveillance systems in connection with your tablet or smartphone. The ongoing need to monitor their own spaces often leads to the choice of integrated surveillance systems such as those proposed by Endoacustica.

U.S.: a mosquito for the military espionage

febbraio 20, 2013 Technology No Commenti

A small insect like a mosquito is in reality a very powerful micro-drone could even kill. It’s the latest toy of U.S. Army that seems to use it since 2007, although in the early years has denied its existence. An insect drone, controlled long-distance, with a camera, microphone and syringe studied in the GRASP, laboratory of the University of Pennsylvania.

Micro air vehicles” (MAVs) are called in the important center of research and are designed starting by just small animals: their characteristics and aerodynamic capabilities perfect. According to reliable sources it’s able to extract DNA or inject RFID localization devices in the person-goal, causing a sensation of pain almost imperceptible, comparable to that caused by a normal mosquito bite. Obviously the uses to which it may be intended by the secret service are many: it can be used as a spy, being equipped with a camera and microphone, but also as a “silent killer” by injecting into the chosen victim, powerful poisons available in the market, which can cause cardiac arrest, suggesting a natural death.

As is clear to know, the “mosquito drone” can penetrate everywhere without being seen through a tiny crack and remain in an environment for months without arousing suspicions.

Military technologies are advanced and often would become very dangerous if put into circulation. In order to this, it’s mandatory considering that the majority of these tools are kept secret. At the moment we known that England, France, Holland and Israel could have microdrones.

Riot, the Google-spy

febbraio 15, 2013 Technology No Commenti

“The Guardian” has revealed a few days ago the existence of Riot (Rapid Overlay Information Technology, but also like a “riot”, suggesting that the product can be used as a kind of social control). The software was developed in the USA by Raytheon, one of the greatest companies working in the field of military defense, able to obtain data (data mining) and provides predictions on the behavior of U.S. Citizens. At the base of the software there are the social media like Facebook and Twitter. Usually to know this type of information is used USB pens or small systems that allow you to know each data is inserted into the PC. Riot is a kind of search engine able to locate the users of the social, to show their photos, where and when these were taken and it can be transformed into a real instrument of control, a “Google-spy”. It works by using complex algorithms to “read” billions of information on the web.

At the moment it seems that the software isn’t sold because different aspects preoccupy the privacy. For example you can follow people and their habits, and then predict their behavior. In addition, users often don’t know that their data is available to everyone and then would be needed an information campaign for correct use. And that’s not all. Through the Riot graphical object browser you can correlate people, events and relationships.

For now, some similar information can be obtained through the twitter scraping (selective extraction of tweet) or search engines designed specifically for Facebook. It also seems that the FBI is developing software for social media research. The controversies about privacy don’t lack in these cases. David Brin, science-fiction writer in 1998 had declared: “We are already too far away to be able to regulate the use of video cameras, you should adjust to the fact that we will lose part of our privacy, but to the advantage of greater security”.

The new hi-tech pens record and correct grammatical errors

febbraio 7, 2013 Technology No Commenti

The pens are, from antiquity, everyday objects. They come in different types: classic, technological, fashion, made of precious materials…Depopulated in the market for some years now the DVR Pens Endoacustica, pens that, in addition to the normal writing, are able to record audio and video of good quality allowing you to store school lessons, interviews or to monitor situations in a discrete manner. Once created the file can be exported in comfort on the PC through a USB cable supplied.

Despite the spread of computers in many occasions it is necessary still using the pen and, accustomed as we are, to the automatic correction is likely to make a bad impression in terms of grammar knowledges. Someone has thought of this kind of writing problems creating Lernstift, a pen that vibrates every time it detects that you’re writing something wrong, either a single letter or an entire word.

The pen has been created by an Austrian couple after noting the efforts of their son to learn to write. The tool is presented as a normal pen of color green and white, but inside are implanted sensors that can detect a series of variations in the way the words are formed. Errors can be reported in two ways, “calligraphy” or “orthography” and when they are detected, the device makes a buzz.

By the way some people talk about “educational tool unique and effective”, others instead believe that this kind of gadgets risk to “delete our grammar expertise”. At the time, Lernstift is still under development, but it seems that in the next weeks will launch a crowdfunding project with the aim of raising funds to commercialize it on a large scale. A project certainly to improve that still leaves perplexed linguists.

Hi-tech has a new watchword: gadgets. There are all types and for all tastes, more or less useful and more and more customizable. Some gadgets have appeared on the market in recent weeks. Let’s see some of the most appreciate.

Will help us to don’t stay more without battery, Nectar Mobile Power System, portable power supply tool that provides extra power for more than two weeks, for each device. So we can leave the charger at home and use our technology products without an electrical outlet available. At the moment the cost is about $299.

The American company HzO has thought about the classics “domestic accidents” of our devices. It’s frequent that the instruments constantly in own hands come into contact with liquid: water, coffee, beverages of all kinds…and so are destroyed. The solution is called Water Block and allows you to waterproof any device through the jet of a chemical vapor, a process to implement at the time of production in the factory.

Endoacustica has put on the market a few weeks ago the new Micro GPS GPRS, a tracking system that integrates, in a single circuit, a GPS and GPRS transceiver and a satellite receiver. Small and light, lets you know live or recorded the exact location of the object, person or animal observed. Countless uses: track your baggage, keep children under control, monitor the movements of the partner, don’t lose sight of your pet…but also check the car speed or listen what happen around the device.

The new gadgets have also thought about nature, or rather about aspiring gardeners, with Flower Power, an app that uses bluetooth technology to measure the parameters that favor the growth of plants and flowers. Subsequently, the data are sent directly on our mobile device.

The car reads the newspaper for the driver

gennaio 11, 2013 Technology No Commenti

The hi-tech introduced at the Consumer Electronics Show (CES) in Las Vegas has included the driver safety.
Once again it’s been very careful to the topic, the carmaker Ford that has presented numerous news about the auto-connectivity infrastructure that interact specifically with smartphones.
Has attracted particular curiosity Kaliki, the application that allows you to listen, while driving a car, the reading of the favourite newspapers. The app works with the Ford Sync AppLink network and it will certainly appreciate by the 140 millions of Americans who spend about 50 minutes a day in the car. Kaliki can inform the driver about the latest news according to his favorite topics or read magazines. At the moment the application is only available for smartphones with Android operating system, in short time it may also be used on iPhone.

The basis for this innovation is the connection Bluethooth of the Ford Sync system, with the opportunity to browse the menu through voice commands. Saying the name of the newspaper or magazine that wants to “listen”, the driver can choose among titles and categories that are listed, the preferred option.

A few months ago it was the same Focus to offer additional solutions in the comfort and safety fields as the traffic sign recognition: a micro camera implanted in the car reads the digital signals and sends the information to a software that interprets the signs and alerts the driver with icons and alarms about prohibitions and speed limits. Same thing can be done for the control of road markings, for the maintenance of the lane and for the monitoring of the driver’s attention. Some cars made by the company can also be equipped with a system that stops the car in the event of a collision with some pedestrians or obstacles. To these are added the most common semi-automatic devices for parking.

Optimal solutions to improve the time spent in the car and to implement our activities with safely. The data that speak of road accidents are drastic and a high percentage of responsibility is attributed to the sleep and tiredness. Beyond innovation, isn’t to leave at home a valid antisleep driving alarm if you are under excessive fatigue or if you have to face long trips.

Pay for the bus with the smartphone? In London you can

dicembre 27, 2012 Technology No Commenti

London continues to make great strides in the field of technology. At the heart of British investments this time there are the typical red double-decker buses. This is the project of contactless payment that will allow to pay for the bus through credit cards and smartphones. This will involve the installation of NFC readers (Near field communication, the technology behind the system) on the means of transport. The new technique starts from an ordinary credit card, debt or purchase, authorized to execute transactions in proximity of the readers. In addition to this, the payment may be carried just through the smartphones equipped with chips NFR.

With these systems you can pay bus routes and very soon also the subway and other public transport. The chip can also be implanted in the Oyster card, card commonly used by Londoners for the public transport, and it will enable the development of services and applications without licensing requirements.

During start up, will be possible to purchase single route at a reduced price in order to encourage the adoption of the new technology. Obviously, this phase will be long because the cards in circulation in England are over 30 thousand, not counting smartphones. Some difficulties were encountered in harmonizing the payment services of the banks that support the project. In any case, the British city is the first to adopt this service, one hopes that soon follow the same path other European cities.

Now with the phone you really can do everything: check your position and that of another person, listen to calls and read text messages to another phone, even hear what is happening around it; all this with the installation of advanced software Endoacustica. If one day the method of payment via smartphone to be extended to any commercial form, we can really say that without its you cannot live!
