The recorder fits inside a pen measuring 147 mm long and 13.9 mm in diameter. It remains usable for writing throughout a recording session.

One recording control

Powering on puts the pen in recording standby. Press the button again to start capturing audio; there is no need to switch out of a music playback mode.

Playback without a computer

Connect the included earphone to review recordings directly from the pen. USB access lets you transfer audio and store other files in the internal memory.

A voice recorder inside a writing pen

PEN-REC captures conversations through a built-in microphone while functioning as a ballpoint pen. At 41 g, it is easy to carry in a pocket and provides an audio record alongside handwritten notes.

The microphone can pick up speech from up to approximately 10 meters (33 feet) away under favorable acoustic conditions. Distance, speaking volume and background noise affect how clearly voices can be understood.

Manual recording with a single button

The pen uses one button for operation. After power-on, it enters recording standby and waits for the recording command. No indicator light is active during recording, and the pen can still be used to write.

WAV recordings and 2 GB of storage

Recordings are saved as WAV files in the 2 GB internal memory. Use the supplied earphone for playback from the pen, or connect the USB cable to transfer files to a computer.

No proprietary file-management or playback software is required. The pen also works as USB storage for documents and other files; those files share the available space with recordings.

Rechargeable battery

The built-in 3.7 V lithium battery provides up to 9 hours of recording or up to 8 hours of playback under ideal conditions. Actual runtime varies with use. These are separate operating-mode ratings, not consecutive runtimes from a single charge.
